‘Crush it with Clouds’ by Sankar Sharma MSTA: If only we could do the same with Covid-19

As a handful of countries start lifting corona-virus related restrictions, Britain looks set to enter another 3 weeks of lockdown. Tuesday the 14th April was the second STA Monthly Meeting that was held online due to limits to the size of indoor gatherings. Our guest speaker, Sankar Sharma, was obviously delighted to be invited, saying he was proud to be ‘’among the best in the world of technical analysis’’.

CEO of RiskRewardRetrun.com, which he calls 3R Methodology, he describes himself as: ‘Market Strategist, Global Trader & Trading Coach’ (his capitalisation) and has written a book called ‘Stock Trading Made Simple’. Introduced by our chairman Tom Hicks – who is also a fan of Ichimoku Cloud analysis – and the technology end sorted by the ever- reliable Katie – Sankar launched into the way he uses the Japanese analysis.

I like the way his slides sometimes use clouds only – no price action or anything – sometimes moving averages, and rarely the lagging line. He says he’s trademarked 2 cloud strategies, Touch and Clear, and admits to using candlestick and other patterns in his analysis. He’s also honest about when to ditch the system and go on holiday. I’m wondering as to his use of monthly candles and clouds, but take my hat off to his choice of the S&P 500 index in 2020.

I think the strength of this webinar lies in its design, and has valuable lessons for all those who must increasingly resort to virtual meetings and content delivery. Because the viewer sees the presenter in a tiny square, one’s presence is greatly diminished and therefore really good Power Point and charts are centre-stage. I think his idea to list the meeting’s agenda at the start great, plus the fact we know in advance how long it will run. His live video insert of a real-time strategy on a 5 minute chart excellent. Not sure whether the online poll really works, but well-worth considering for audience engagement.

Q&A follows and Tom laments there will be no drinks after. Soon, perhaps.
