Yesterday, Tuesday the 11th December, the STA held its last meeting at CISI’s offices in the ‘walkie talkie’ tower. As from January 2019 monthly meetings will be held at the Chartered Accountants’ Hall, 1 Moorgate Place, London EC2R 6EA. Half-way between Bank and Moorgate tube stations, I’m told it’s more spacious and facilities are better.
In the meantime, the STA’s 32nd annual general meeting was a busy one, what with Chairman Axel Rudolph stepping down – only as far as the Executive Committee, mind you, and Tom Hicks taking over. Mark Tennyson D’Eyncourt, Clive Lambert, and Leona Gomez Lopez were re-elected to their current posts, and Eddie Tofpik as board
member and head of marketing. Richard Adcock will replace Anne Whitby as company secretary.
This year can be considered a good one for the society, achieving 2018’s goals (including a new web site for members) with about 1500 members in 50 countries. Axel then went on to thank the committee for their help during his 6 years as chairman, capping it all by awarding David Sneddon with a Fellowship of our society. It recognised his first 4 years at Investment Research of Cambridge, the oldest of its kind, and subsequent multi-decade career at Credit Suisse which David said was ‘a very stimulating and fantastic career’. His acceptance speech was later described as ‘very gracious’. Axel rounded off with, ‘’let’s look forward to the next 50 years!’’
A Christmas quiz then followed, organised by Clive Lambert, testing the ‘specialist skills’ of the audience. They got into the spirit of things, gasping and booing, sighing and cheating, as they raced against the clock to answer 40 questions. I attach the Power Point presentation below because you might like to test this out with family and friends over year-end holidays. I will supply correct answers shortly. And guess who got top marks? David Sneddon, cleaning up last night! A “Clever Fellow”, then!
