This year’s Annual General Meeting was held at the British Bankers Association on Tuesday 8 December and was followed by a talk by Professor Russell Napier and the Christmas party. STA Annual Dinner – November 2015

On Wednesday 25 November, the STA held its annual Dinner at the impressive National Liberal Club, One Whitehall Place. New faces and old friends gathered for pre-Drinks in the Smoking Room before sitting down to a three course dinner in the fabulous David Lloyd George room. This year’s guest speaker was Dr Greg Davies of Barclays Wealth, who gave an enlightening and entertaining talk on his speciality, behavioural finance.

The STA Annual Dinner also included announcing a new Fellow to the Society – Simon Warren. He has been instrumental in driving the STA forward, has made certain that the Society adheres to good corporate governance and always had the STA’s best interests at heart. JPMorgan Corporate Challenge – 9 July 2015

J.P. Morgan Corporate Challenge

Despite Thursday 9th July 2015 being the first complete London underground strike in 13 years, STA runners weren’t daunted (though numbers slightly depleted) as they ran for charity at the annual JP Morgan fun run. Setting up team HQ at the Prince Albert pub garden, this was certainly not your typical financial gurus’ usual haunt.
Organised by STA executive committee member Tom Hicks MSTA and chairman Axel Rudolph FSTA, with vice chairman Charles Newsome MSTA one of the runners and Mark Tennyson d’Eyncourt FSTA manning the fort (built of rucksacks), the committee were out in force.

Told to strip and don fetching STA T-shirts, they obediently complied and posed to have their picture taken at the first ever STA event of its type. Superbly organised – and the weather couldn’t have been nicer – they set off in batches based on their own estimates of time to complete the 5.6 kilometre circuit. We are pleased to announce that there were no drop outs and no injuries.

A lovely and challenging evening was had by all.

Usually only Full Members and Associate Members may attend the monthly STA meetings.
However, you may also attend a monthly STA meeting as a non-member, either as a guest of a member or by contacting info@sta-uk.org and asking to be added to the guest list.

At the monthly meetings a technical analysts, broker or hedge fund manager etc. presents the latest techniques, research or forecasts using technical analysis. Each talk begins promptly at 6.30pm, lasts about 45 minutes and is followed by a 10-15 minute question and answer session. The evening is then followed by a networking drinks reception 7.30pm until 8.30pm.

The July and December meetings have always been viewed as more social occasions at which the Summer and Christmas ‘parties’ are held. At these events canapés are being served, together with the refreshments usually provided at monthly meetings. In previous years the talks at these ‘parties’ were also of a more light-hearted or historical nature, with an emphasis as much on entertainment as education.

Every alternate year an annual dinner is held at the National Liberal Club at Whitehall Place in London. This members as well as non-members can buy tickets for. It is a social evening in magnificent surroundings with an after dinner speaker and the use of a lovely terrace overlooking the Embankment and the Thames.

Members who cannot attend the monthly meetings in London can view these on the STA website a few days after the event.
