Society of Technical Analysts

The STA’s main objective is to promote greater use and understanding of technical analysis as a vital investment tool. It aims to serve all members of the investment community – from professionals of the investment industry to interested members of the public.

For your information, the following members of the STA form the STA Executive Committee.

Adam Sorab is Chairman of the Society of Technical Analysts and a Director of the International Federation of Technical Analysts. He is also Head of Technical Research at CQS (UK) LLP, a London based hedge fund. At CQS, Adam is also Head of Investor Relations, a Director of CQS Management Limited and a member of the firm's Operating Committee.

Prior to CQS, Adam was Director of Absolute Return Strategies at Deutsche Asset Management responsible for Europe & Middle East. Adam joined DeAM from CSFB where he was a founding member and Director of Marketing for the firm’s hedge fund operation, the Leveraged Funds Group. Prior to this, he worked for seven years at Schroders in London as a trader in foreign exchange and interest rate derivatives.

Adam holds a BSc (Hons) in Economics from the London School of Economics. Adam is also an independent adviser to the investment committee of the BUPA’s Pension Fund.

Deborah Owen is the editor of the Society's Journal, The Market Technician. She is also on the STA's ethics, grandfathering and website committees. Deborah is the Managing Editor of Investment Research of Cambridge Ltd.

Simon Warren is the Corporate Treasury Manager at BUPA and is responsible for all BUPA's investments and debt. Simon is a Fellow of the Association of Certified Accountants and began his career at BUPA as a Treasury Accountant before becoming Head of Investment Accounts. In 1996 he moved over to the BUPA Treasury Hedging Desk where he utilised his Technical Analysis skills before accepting his present role in 2003. Simon is Treasurer of the STA and also sits on the Membership and Marketing Committees. He is also a Director of the International Federation of Technical Analysts where he is Chairman of the Finance Committee.

Clive Lambert is an independent techincal analyst who writes for clients in the Futures industry. He has over 20 years city experience, 10 years as a broker on the LIFFE Floor, where he developed his early enthusiasm for technical analysis

Axel Rudolph, is Vice Chairperson for Europe, Africa and the Middle East of the International Federation of Technical Analysts (IFTA) and a board member of the Society of Technical Analysts (STA) in Great Britain. He is also Dow Jones’ Chief Technical Analyst for Europe, covering equity, foreign exchange, interest rate and commodity markets.

Prior to Dow Jones, Axel was a bond and then derivatives trader at Societe Generale Asset Management in Paris, proprietary off-balance sheet trader at the Co-Operative Bank and proprietary futures trader at Buttonwood Group in London.

Axel teaches part of the CFTE II and the STA Diploma course at the London School of Economics and at the London Capital Club, sets some of the examination questions and is one of several people who mark the exam. He also makes regular appearances on CNBC television.

Mr. Rudolph holds a MSc in European Studies from the London School of Economics and a BSc (Hons) in Economics from University College London.

  David Watts - STA Systems and Website. David is a Trading System Consultant and Professional Engineer. He first became involved with the LIFFE markets after being commissioned to provide IT support and write a trading model for a number of LIFFE Traders in 1992. Since then he has used his engineering expertise on a number of innovative trading projects. Commissions include the implementation of Dunnigan's One Way Formulae, a technical trading model. The production of a number of Swing Timing Models for Traders within the Butterworth Group (1997-2000) as well as providing time series analysis tools for clients in the Banking and Fund Management Industry.

David Sneddon - David is a Director in the fixed income research department for the investment bank Credit Suisse, having originally joined Credit Suisse in 1994.  David is responsible for covering global fixed income markets.  He is also responsible for the education of technical analysis for Credit Suisse and their clients.  Awards have included ranking first in the Extel Research Survey in 2004, and previously second in the Euromoney Research Survey.   Prior to Credit Suisse, David began his investment career at Investment Research of Cambridge Ltd in 1990.  He graduated from the university of Newcastle-Upon-Tyne with a degree in Mathematics.


K Jones

 

Karen Jones, is Head of Markets Technical Analysis at Commerzbank Corporates and Markets. The group is responsible for forecasting and formulating technical trading strategy globally and covers foreign exchange, fixed Income, emerging markets and commodities. Karen has extensive experience of technical analysis spanning 20 years. Karen is on the STA's marketing Committee. She previously worked as a global FX technical strategist at CSFB (1993-1998) and Technical analyst at Sucden (UK) Ltd (1987-1993).
