Michael Smyrk started charting in the commodity markets in 1965, and has been expanding his technical analysis horizons ever since. He is a firm believer in the power of ‘the crowd’.

Currently Michael coaches and writes about technical analysis and is also in charge of the MFTA (Master of Financial Technical Analysis) programme for IFTA (International Federation of Technical Analysts). Michael has been a frequent speaker on technical analysis in the UK and internationally.

 

Meet

Jeremy du Plessis is head of technical analysis at Updata and founded Indexia Research in 1983. Jeremy is an expert on Point and Figure charts. He lectures the Point and Figure module for the STA, and sets the Point and Figure module for the International Federation of Technical Analysts.

Jeremy has taught technical analysis to thousands of professional trader and investors over the past 20 years. He is a fellow of the STA and author of the book The definitive guide to Point and Figure.

Tony Plummer has worked in financial markets for more than 30 years, and currently uses his technical research on group behaviour to generate strategic economic and financial market analysis for fund management companies and hedge funds.

He is a Visiting Professorial Fellow in economics at Queen Mary, University of London, and is a Fellow of the STA. His seminal book 'Forecasting Financial Markets' is now in its 5th edition and has been translated into a number of languages. He is the director of Helmsman Economics Ltd., and has directorships in the Emergent group of funds. He is also on the investment advisory committee of the Osiris Property Fund.

 

Meet

Adam Sorab has recently stepped down after 10 years as Chairman and is now a Vice Chairman of the STA and a Director of IFTA. He is also Head of Technical Research at CQS (UK) LLP, a London based hedge fund. At CQS, Adam is also Head of Investor Relations, a Director of CQS Management Limited and a member of the firm's Operating Committee.

George MacLean is currently an examiner for the STA Diploma and Level II of the IFTA Diploma in Technical Analysis. Previously he was a Director of European Technical Analysis for Standard and Poor’s MMS where he analysed the European Cash Bond Market, Bond, Index and Interest Rate Futures from a technical perspective.

He has been a lecturer on the South Bank University/STA Diploma Course and the LSE/STA Diploma Course. George is the author of the book “Fibonacci and Gann Applications in Financial Markets.”

 

Meet

Robert Balan has more than 3 decades of experience in the financial markets. Education in mining engineering and computer science led to a commodity analysis career during the commodity boom of the early 1970s.

Robert made a switch to foreign exchange in the early 1980’s and worked for Swiss Bank Corp and UBS as head of technical research in various finance centers (London, New York, and Toronto respectively) from the late 1980s to mid-1990s. A stint at Bank of America as head of global technical research followed in late 1990s to the early 2000s. Robert returned to Switzerland in 2004 as head of technical research and strategy, and FX market analyst for Swiss Life Asset Management in Zurich.

He recently joined Diapason Commodities Management as senior market strategist.

Robert Balan is the author of the best-selling book “The Elliott Wave Principle Applied to Foreign Exchange Markets.”

Elizabeth Miller is currently a commodities analyst at Mars Chocolate. She previously worked at Redtower Asset Management, an investment advisory and money management firm. Prior to this, Elizabeth worked at Deutsche Bank as a fixed income analyst. Before that, at Bank of America she helped to trade the strategic trading currency portfolio and participated in running the management portfolio of high yielding currency trades.

Elizabeth commenced her career at MMS International and has been a lecturer for the STA Diploma Course and an examiner for the STA Diploma. Elizabeth has over 16 years of experience as a market analyst.

 

John Cameron is a director of the Board for the STA and runs the STA Diploma program.

Malcolm Blazey is a Fellow and past Deputy Chairman of the STA.

As a professional trader and analyst he has over 30 years experience, mainly with leading financial institutions in the UK, Continental Europe and the Middle East. He currently runs his own trading and consulting company.
